Join us for a pre-election defence industry breakfast, on Thursday 17 April from 8am to 10am at Lot Fourteen. With the federal election approaching on Saturday 3 May, hear insights and differing perspectives from Senator David Fawcett and Steve Georganas MP on the potential impact of the election on the defence industry.

The key topics which will be discussed are:

Senator David Fawcett – Senator for SA, Australian Liberal Party

Senator the Hon David Fawcett (BSC, MBA, MAICD, QTP, psc) served in the Australian Defence Force as an Army pilot for 22 years, flying rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, and as an experimental test pilot. He was the Senior Flying Instructor at the School of Army Aviation in Queensland and later became the Commanding Officer of the RAAF Aircraft Research and Development Unit at RAAF Base Edinburgh. In 2004, he was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Wakefield—serving until 2007, after which he continued to fly as a test pilot and ran a defence and aviation business prior to entering the Senate in 2010. Since then, he has served on a range of committees—including as the Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, and on the Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security. In the 45th Parliament, David was sworn in as the Assistant Minister for Defence.

Steve Georganas MP – Federal Member for Adelaide, Australian Labor Party

Steve is a Member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, where he serves on the Defence Sub Committee. The Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade considers and reports on such matters relating to foreign affairs, defence and trade as may be referred to it by either House of the Parliament or a Minister. The Committee may also inquire into matters raised in annual reports of relevant Australian Government departments and authorities or in reports of the Australian Government Auditor-General. Steve has lived in the electorate of Adelaide his entire life. Steve has worked as a taxi driver, on a factory assembly line, as an underwriter and a policy adviser. He has also worked as an organiser advocating for workers' rights in the airline and local government sectors. Steve is also the Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Corporations and Financial Services.
