Hampton Roads is known around the world for its distinguished military presence. With a total of 19 installations, including Naval Station Norfolk, the world’s largest naval base, and more than 80,000 active-duty military personnel, the region has one of the largest concentrations of armed forces in the United States. With all 10 of the top US defence contractors having a presence in Hampton Roads, local companies are at the forefront of American industry, creating and utilising some of the most advanced equipment and training in the country.
The Hampton Roads Alliance is a nonprofit, public-private partnership supported and led by the region’s most influential business leaders, local governments, and top academic institutions. The Alliance represents 15 localities who, with the support of nearly 100 private sector investors, govern and resource the organisation and its regional economic development efforts, focusing on business attraction, business expansion and business intelligence.
