The Defence Teaming Centre welcomes the announcement by the Federal Government today that German ship designer Luerssen has been selected as the prime contractor for the SEA 1180 Offshore Patrol Vessel program.
“We congratulate Luerssen on this announcement together with shipbuilders ASC, Austal and Civmec,” said Defence Teaming Centre CEO Margot Forster.
While the decision to use all three shipbuilders was unexpected, the fact is a decision has been made and this is excellent news for industry, particularly the SMEs. We must now focus on mobilising industry to ensure we maximise opportunities for as many Australian businesses as possible.
The Defence Teaming Centre has worked with Luerssen over the past twelve months and has strong relationships with all three shipbuilders – we look forward to continued collaboration.
The DTC has a strong membership base in both South Australia and Western Australia and with the recent appointment of Austal’s Davyd Thomas to the DTC Board, we are well positioned to support industry in both states.
“We very much look forward to supporting Luerssen in this endeavor,” said Ms Forster.
