International students and the skills shortage | DTC Member Only Seminar

29 March @ 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

The Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) has collaborated with StudyAdelaide to bring to defence industry a seminar on how international student graduates can assist companies in the Defence sector with the skills shortage issue.

Every year, thousands of highly qualified and experienced international students graduate from South Australian universities and colleges, with the ability to work for up to five years in South Australia from the moment they complete their studies.

With students coming from a wide range of backgrounds, including Brazil, India, Vietnam and Kenya, they bring with them a diverse set of skills, thinking styles and experiences – the qualities that can assist companies in solving tricky problems or develop new technology.

International graduates also get work rights that make it as easy to employ them as a local, with no costs or paperwork required by the employer.

The seminar provides:

  • knowledge of the international graduate work visas
  • benefits of employing international students
  • an overview of the skills and experience of our international graduates
  • practical tips on how to connect with graduates
  • hearing from a local business that has successfully addressed skills shortages by employing international students
  • insights from a highly qualified and experienced international graduate who is now working for an SA business
  • ways to welcome international students into your workplace

Ticket registrations close 5:00pm 27 March 2023.

After the seminar there will be a BD After Five networking event which is sponsored by StudyAdelaide, held at The District to continue networking. Click here to purchase tickets.

By advocating for and educating the community on the benefits brought by international students – beyond economic value – StudyAdelaide aims to showcase how international education can play a critical role in transforming South Australia and help place the State on the world stage. Bringing their skills, experience, and different ways of thinking to the workplace, especially in a time of growth, is one of the ways international students can transform the state.
